Fort Benning

[edit]

A quick note to explain why Fort Benning is not included in detail here. A Google search for "Fort Benning"+"Iron Mike" brings up 858 hits, most of which are not even about the statue. A search for "Fort Benning"+"Follow Me" comes up with 16,700 hits, and is where I was able to find the most information on the actual statue. So clearly it's not called "Iron Mike" by most. GA nom ... passed

[edit]

Although the length of this article would very likely keep it from being a FA, I've nominated it for GA as it has broad coverage, references, and photos. It contains just about every bit of sourced information I can find on the subject. Kafziel 16:42, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Brief but good. I would like to have some more info on the etymology/history of the name Iron Mike. Also, if possible, some book references would be useful to complement the article. Lincher 14:53, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GA Reassessment

[edit]
This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Iron Mike/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

As part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles' Project quality task force, all old good articles are being re-reviewed to ensure that they meet current good article criteria (as detailed at WP:WIAGA. I have determined that this article needs some upkeep to maintain its status:

  • According to the link checker tool, there are several dead links that need to be replaced.
  • The lead does not summarize the entire article as required by WP:LEAD. In fact, the lead material does not appear in the body. It needs to be moved to the body, sourced, and a new lead written incorporating and addressing the entire article
  • There's a serious issue of coverage; as it stands, what the article is missing is more info about the etymology of the name and the history behind the monuments--currently, it reads as more a list than an article. The lead information is a start, but as mentioned needs to be sourced and expanded.
  • File:QuanticoMike.gif needs info about how it qualifies as a PD-MARINE image; a similar issue is found in File:BelleauMike.jpg, File:Ironmike2.jpg, and File:BraggMike.gif, which lack source and author info.

I am putting the article on hold pending the above improvements. Please leave any status updates in this space. Thanks, Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 17:25, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As no improvements have commenced in the time allotted, I am delisting the article. You may renominate at WP:GAN at any time, but it would be a good idea to address the above issues first. If you have any questions or comments, I don't watchlist these old reviews, so take it up at my talk page instead. Thanks, Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 15:00, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
